Gorgeous Croatia

Angela from our Reepham Road branch recently visited Croatia, read about her experience.

“I recently took a 5 day trip to Croatia - it was incredible and I wish I could have stayed longer.  I stayed at the Hotel Dubrovnik Palace which was situated in the Lapud Peninsular which is about 3 miles from the Old Town of Dubrovnink. This is a large hotel in a quiet location (the road ends at the hotel) and is about a mile away from local shops, bars and restaurants, but don’t worry as there is a bus stop right outside the hotel and it only costs about a pound to get to the entrance of the Old City of Dubrovnik.

The medieval Dubrovnik is a must see and would also make a good city break for a few nights. The walled city is filled with churches, monasteries, cobbled streets and quaint houses in narrow streets. The highlight of the trip for me was the walk around the wall which cost approximately £5.00 and was worth every penny. The views are amazing not only of looking down on the old town, but the islands in the distance. If you go on this tour, please ensure you wear sensible shoes when visiting the old town as the stones streets can be very slippery and I did see several people fall who were not wearing the correct footwear. I should mention that the walk can be quite strenuous as there are many steep steps, there are several points where you can leave the walk, but if you feel fit and able it is well worth it. After you’ve finished the walk you can treat yourself to a delicious ice cream available in every imaginable flavour!

Angela in Croatia

There is a good choice of bars, restaurants and shops, as well as a couple of nightclubs which are very popular in the main summer season. If I was taking my family with me we would have stayed in the resort of Cavtat which is about 13 miles away from Dubrovnik. I thought Cavtat had a great holiday feel and I loved the main promenade with its pavement cafes, restaurants and shops. It has great views of the small harbour where you can take boat trips to Dubrovnik, these run throughout the day and take about 30 - 40 minutes.

So if your ideal holiday is to explore new places and discover a bit of culture then Croatia is for you and what makes this location even better is that you can now fly from Norwich airport!”
