"I went on holiday to India and all I can say is that it was GREAT!! What a culture shock though, I come from a typical quiet country village and when I arrived I was amazed at the crowds of people, the hordes of traffic going in all directions and the smells! I never imagined a place like this could exist. It’s a treat for all the senses.
I saw so many wonderful sights while I was there; Delhi was crazy - we went on rickshaws through the streets and it was hit or miss whether our cyclist would stop for the people crossing or if they would just keep on going! The Amber Fort was amazing and the views are spectacular, the fort itself is set on a cliff face and to get there our party rode on elephants! But the piece de résistance, and a place that everyone has to visit at one point in their lifetime, was the Taj Mahal. It is breathtaking and once you stand in front of it and bathe in its glory you can see why it is described as a “poem in white marble”. It has an incredible atmosphere and sense of being and even though there were hundreds of people there it was so peaceful and quiet that you could’ve heard a pin drop!
Unfortunately at all the tourist sights there are lots of street vendors that have selective hearing especially when it comes to the word no. My advice is to either walk away OR if you do actually want to buy something, banter with the stall holders and tell them the vendor before was offering the same gift at a much lower price, this way you will hopefully get some fabulous gifts for your family at a reduced price.
Mmmm Food! For the curry enthusiast you have come to the right place my friend! You will taste the nicest and most authentic curries here and I honestly don’t know how I’m going to go back to my local takeaway now I’ve tasted what the homeland has to offer! However if you want something other than curry there are lots of other international cuisines you can choose so no-one is left feeling hungry!
Finally I’d just like to say that this trip was one of THE most amazing experiences of my life and if you get the chance to go….GO!!"
