A trip to remember - Sri Lanka and the Maldives!

A trip to remember - Sri Lanka and the Maldives!

Stacey from our Dereham and Grove road branches visited paradise, read about her trip here.

“I’ve just come back from the Maldives and Sri Lanka and I can only think of one way to describe this fab trip – truly amazing!! Visiting two completely different destinations in one trip was great. At first I was a bit dubious, but I’ve completely changed my mind as you get to experience so much!

My first stop was the Maldives which is pretty much everyone's idea of paradise. The speedboat transfers were great and I felt really glamorous as we whizzed across the ocean. It can be a little rough though so it’s probably not for those of you who haven't got good sea legs. However never fear because you can get to most of the islands by sea plane and from here you can get fantastic views.

The Maldives is exactly how you imagine it - crystal blue seas and pure white sand. If you love sunbathing then nothing beats lying on a sun lounger with a good book and all you can see and hear is the Indian Ocean. One word - bliss! I visited three different islands and each one had something that took my breath away - Coco Palm on Buda Hithi was my favourite as the beaches where out of this world! If you wanted to do more than soak up the sun then you could try diving and snorkelling, it’s great because the water is so clear. I tried snorkelling for the first time and it was fantastic - I saw some beautifully coloured fish and even some baby sharks, but it was ok because they were vegetarian ones!

One evening we had a beach barbecue, can you imagine anything more fun than eating lovely food on a beach in the Maldives and then ending the perfect evening with a movie under the stars?! I couldn’t either! On our last night we took a sunset cruise and this was simply stunning as the sun sets very quickly, I don’t think life gets much better than seeing the sunset over the Indian Ocean whilst lounging in a boat sipping champagne!

Elephants

After spending 4 nights in the Maldives it was off to Sri Lanka for a further 5 nights. Sri Lanka is completely different to the Maldives. The Maldives is so peaceful and Sri Lanka is very busy and noisy, but this didn’t stop me from enjoying my time here. We visited many popular sights such as Temple of the Tooth, Spice Gardens and the Botanical Gardens. We climbed Sigiriya Rock which was very tiring as it takes a good half hour and can be a little hairy at times! My highlight whilst in Sri Lanka has to be the elephant orphanage, here we got to see the elephants being bathed and it was just amazing to be that close. After this I got to feed a baby elephant and later on even got to ride one, this was quite uncomfortable and a bit scary at times especially when it went in the water!

This trip really was just a great experience and there were so many highlights. I would definitely recommend going to both Sri Lanka and the Maldives as they are both just fantastic places with so much to offer.”
